Since it’s summer and the days are longer, I love that I’m able to shoot sessions in the Madison area on weekday evenings. Just this past Friday, I had the absolute privilege of photographing a beautiful family (complete with delightful daughter and sweet grandmother!). I uploaded these images and just fell in love with the quality of the light — so warm and golden. And at 6 pm, the bugs weren’t even out yet. It was all and all perfect.

One of my favorite things about shooting at this time of day: the backlighting possibilities. Which were accentuated by this little girl’s hair. Oh my goodness.

I know I’ve said it before, but one of my very favorite things about children’s photography is when I’m able to just get out there and run around after the kids… watching them be themselves. On this photo shoot, we went to a nearby park that is one of this little 2 year old’s favorite places. Think she was having fun?

In addition to the silly moments, there were also lots of sweet moments and lots of hugs and cuddles for this little girl from all the members of her family.

I hope that these sorts of photographs become treasures for the parents. Something they’ll really love going back to look at again and again, especially as their little ones grow up. I’ll end with one of my new favorites…

ps. Madison area readers, e-mail me if you’d like to set up your own early evening session. I LOVE doing them, and summer only lasts so long.

Just stumbled upon your blog. I had to comment – those photographs are really somethin’! I am into photography myself, but still at the beginning stages. You seem to be a photographer I’d definitely learn from
Lovely job!

Casey,
You did an incredible job with the photos of Mina. She is my great niece and her Nana sent me the pictures as well. They were so intense and moving. Of course, you did have a great subject!
